This is a view of the old Clarnico factory from the other side of the canal. The 8 cranes behind it are the main Olympic Stadium cranes getting it ready for 2012.
This is the only building left out of the whole Kings Yard. All the surrounding factories were demolished to make way for the bio-generator for the Olympic site.

I seem to remember a sucking sweet with a mint flavour from when I was a little girl.

I feel so sad about all the other buildings in this yard having been demolished!!
I know they awere all in the same state as this one, but surely they could ALL have been saved & converted into posh residences or something?!
What is the story with the bio-generator for the Olympics anyway?
Is it going to happen or not? Are they going to feed it by barge like they promised in the legacy plan?

My Mum (now 83 years old) and originally from the Hertford Road, Stevenage (before there was a New Town ! ha ! ha !), remembers a family called CROOME from Hackney Wick. The father of this family was known as 'Nutty' Croome (she doesn't know his real name !) and she thinks his wife was called Nelly ? He was a little man, maybe 4'11" tall and he worked down the sewers. Mum thinks he was probably born around 1900, as he was a little older than my Grandfather (Mum's Dad). Was the Clarnico factory hit by a bomb during WW2 ? as Mum recalls Nutty's daughter and son-in-law dying there. The daughter may have been called Lily ? as my Nan used to refer to her as 'Lipstick Lil' because she was a lovely looking young woman who was always applying & reapplying her lipstick ! Mum also thinks that one of their son's called Ron was still living in London up until the 1970s, and was also killed in an explosion, but this time no German incendaries, etc, but as he was working deliverying an oxygen tank/bottle. Maybe someone knows the name or the incident ? Nutty's sister was the link to Stevenage - it seems her husband was related to the Wray family of Hertford Road, Stevenage. They had a plot of land, working it as something of a smallholding, selling some of their produce at Hertford Market on a Saturday. Thats how Nutty & his family came to visit Stevenage regularly to see his sister. Mum says Nutty used to sing a little song which went "in and out urinals, sorting out the finals, passing many happy hour away, cor blimey !". He also used to like to set up traps whilst out in the countryside, to try and catch small wild birds - she thinks he used to take the birds back to London. Wonder if anyone will reply to this ? Good day to you all.

I'm trying to find some information on a tin I found in a house my Hubby and I bought. Thought this might be a good spot! I haven't found one that looks like the one I have yet. It's a tin box with red paper around it- no images, but text "Clarnico Limited London England" on the top and "Clarnico chocolate wafers, milk chocolate wafers, 8 dozen" on one of the sides. Any ideas?

My mum used to work at clarnicos in the 1950s I remember going to see her after school and eating the chocolate I can't remember now where it was I thought it was in Statford. Does any one know please.
